The Lyric Theatre family is getting ready to celebrate Season 23! Founded in 1965 on the West Island as a local community musical theatre company, they have operated very successfully over the last 47 years performing on stages and venues to the appreciation of thousands. The Lyric organization is managed and supported by a cast of dedicated volunteers, and staged their much anticipated production of the musical comedy whodunit “CURTAINS” this past May-June at the D.B. Clarke Theatre, marking their return to their Broadway musical “book show” roots, which began with Gypsy Baron in 1965.
Musical Director Bob Bachelor will be holding auditions in early September 2012 for the Season which includes Christmas concerts in 2012 and Spring Concerts in 2013. History
The Lyric Theatre is a community theatre company dedicated to providing performance opportunities for the benefit and development of its members and the community at large. Lyric’s members are given unique opportunities to create the highest quality musical theatre productions possible. Performing in local venues, it was managed and supported by volunteers from the West Island. In 1986, Lyric moved its main stage productions to Centaur Theatre, the premiere English language theatre facility in Old Montreal. In doing so, the company created a new home base for their annual book shows. This move broadened its audience, increased its support base and positively impacted the company’s financial and artistic results.
In 1990 a second performance division was established: The Lyric Theatre Singers. Under the direction of founder, Bob Bachelor, this award-winning vocal ensemble has since become known to Montreal audiences as the foremost interpreters of Broadway, jazz, and pop choral music. Their unique and dynamic concert style – which has won them many accolades from judges and fans alike – combines excellent choral work with creative staging that captures the drama of the music. The Lyric Theatre Singers has grown into a company of performers from all areas of the city rehearsing and performing 10 months out of every year.
